Designed by Warren Platner in 1966, the Planters Collection captured the “decorative, gentle, graceful” shapes what were beginning to be incorporated into modern vocabulary. The Arm Char, which can be used as a dining chair or guest chair, is created by welding curved steel rods in circular and semi-circular frames, serving as both as structure and ornament.

Capitol Complex Office Chair
By Cassina

This chair is one of the most recognisable in Chandigarh’s Capitol Complex, found throughout the offices of the Secretariat. The independent pieces, including the side bars in an inverted “V” supporting the armrests, are all made of solid wood. The Viennese woven cane backrest and seat, stretched across a wooden frame, are elements common in the area, much like the use of local woods like teak. Frame is oak stained black with sand colored removable velvet cushions.

Included in Unesco’s 2016 Cultural Heritage list, the extraordinary architecture of Le Corbusier’s Capitol Complex, designed by Chandigarh in 1951, has received accolades for its celebration of an independent nation open to modernity.
